Manarat 2019 – full program of projections and meetings

Manarat 2019 – full program of projections and meetings

The complete screening of projections and various events of the second edition of the Manarat festival which will take place from July 1 to 7, 2019, has finally been unveiled. The projections will take place in 3 cinemas (Ciné 350 at the Cité de la Culture, Cinémadart in Carthage and Cinema Alhambra Zéphyr at La Marsa) and 9 beaches (La Marsa, Khereddine/Airport, Hammam Lif, Korba, Monastir, Bizerte, Sfax/Chaffar, Gabes and Djerba).

In addition to the ten feature films in competitions, several other important and interesting films, distributed in different sections (Mediterranean panorama, aspect of contemporary Egyptian cinema, aspect of contemporary Italian cinema, committed cinema and special sessions) are on the program. Several of these films will be screened in the presence of one or more members of their teams.

We can cite as an example:

  • The Italian film Le Traitre (2019)produced by Marco Bellocchio, also in official competition at the 2019 Cannes Film Festival (Tuesday July 2, 2019 at 9:30 p.m. at Cinémadart). Synopsis: At the beginning of the 1980s, the war between the sponsors of the Sicilian mafia was at its height. Tommaso Buscetta, member of Cosa Nostra, flees his country to hide in Brazil. Meanwhile, in Italy, the settling of accounts are linked. Relatives of Buscetta are murdered.
  • The French film The most beautiful years of a life (2019) by Claude Lelouch, also scheduled at the 2019 Cannes Film Festival, but out of competition (Saturday July 6, 2019 at 9:30 p.m. at Cinémadart). Synopsis: They got to know each other a long time ago. A man and a woman, whose artist of dazzling love, unexpected, seized in a parenthesis that has become mythical, will have revolutionized our way of seeing love.   • The Cypriot film Pause (2018)directed by Tonia Mishiali. Synopsis: A housewife imprisoned in the misery of an oppressive marriage finds refuge in a fantasized world of vindictive violence. But very quickly the limits between reality and fantasies begin to blur.
  • The Egyptian film Clash (2016)directed by Mohamed Diab. This magnificent film had opened the Un Certain Regard section at the 2016 Cannes Film Festival and won 4 awards at the 2016 JCC 2016 (Silver Tanit, the price of the best assembly, the price of the best image and the Prize of the African Federation of Cinematographic Critique (FACC), Nejiba Hamrouni Prize). This film was also chosen to represent Egypt at the Oscar race for the best film in a foreign language. Clash is undoubtedly one of the best Egyptian films of the last 10 years! (Tuesday July 2, 2019 at 10:30 p.m. at Khereddine beach/Airport and Wednesday July 3, 2019 at 10:30 p.m. in Djerba/Houmt Bouch). Synopsis: Cairo, July 2013, two years after the Egyptian revolution. In the aftermath of the dismissal of President Mohamed Morsi, the city was the scene of bloody clashes between the Muslim Brotherhood and the supporters of the army. Arrested by the police, around twenty demonstrators with divergent political and religious convictions as well as two journalists covering the demonstrations, suspected of being spies, find themselves locked in the same van.   • The Lebanese film Capernaum (2018) From Nadine Labaki who won more than twenty prizes, including the jury prize and the citizenship prize and the prize for the ecumenical jury at the 2018 Cannes Film Festival. This very beautiful and very moving film was also appointed for the Oscar for the best foreign language film. In China, Capharnaüm broke the starter record for an Arab film.
