It is tomorrow that the 9th edition of the Malmö Arab film festival (MAFF) which will take place from October 4 to 8, 2019.

The MAFF was founded in 2011 by its director general Mohamed Keblawi to respond to the need, in Malmö and in Sweden, to have a space conducive to the sharing and exploration of Arab culture.

Over the years, this festival has become the largest and most famous European film festival and the only of the Scandinavian countries. Since its creation, the MAFF has taken on important measures to offer a panoramic view of the Arab social and political situation and lead constructive dialogues for professionals and the public. The objective of the festival is to create bridges between cultures based on the film as a universal visual language, capable of imitating the diversity of the human dimension.

Each year, a hundred films, long and short films, fiction and documentaries, are screened during the festival, in the various sections: competitions, panoramas, retrospectives and special projections.

Tunisia is the guest of honor of this 9th edition of the Maff. The program for this Tunisian participation was developed thanks to a collaboration between the Festival and the National Center for Cinema and Image (CNCI) which have signed a cooperation protocol including various Tunisian events which will be organized during the festival, including the participation of five long and four Tunisian short films in different festival sections, including the opening film, an exhibition of posters retracing the history of Tunisian cinema, Seminars, one entitled “Tunisian cinema between the past and the present”, and the other to present the activity of the CNCI intended for the participants in the market and the forum of the Malmö festival, as well as the presence of several filmmakers and professionals of the Tunisian media invited to participate in the festival and to present Tunisian cinema to the public of Malmö.

The founder and president of the Malmö festival, director Mohamed Keblawi, explaining the choice of Tunisia as guest of honor said: “It is obvious to recognize the rise of contemporary Tunisian cinema, which is distinguished by its richness, its diversity and its quality and which has become present in recent years in international film festivals. Honor and celebrate this promising cinema was a logical choice for the MAFF, which has been trying since its creation since its creation, to shed light on everything that is unique in Arab cinema ”.

“We are proud that the Maff has chosen Tunisian cinema as a guest of honor during the next edition,” said CHIRAZ Latiri, director of the CNCI. “This tribute reflects the continuous positive movement of Tunisian cinema both qualitatively and quantitatively. The CNCI will spare no effort to help the program arise in a perfect form. ”
