The Palestinian Islamist movement announced on Monday having released two Israeli women removed “for pressing humanitarian reasons” thanks to mediation from Qatar and Egypt.
The spokesman for the Hamas military branch, Abou Obeida, said in a statement that the two hostages had been released “for pressing humanitarian reasons” thanks to mediation from Qatar and Egypt.
This release, which comes three days after that of two Americans, was not immediately confirmed by the Israeli authorities.
Abu Ubaida said that the number of Israeli prisoners in the Gaza Strip is estimated between 200 and 250. He said that “the enemy deliberately launched a brutal attack on our people instead of confronting combatants on the ground”.
He continued: “The Israeli enemy did not expect a besieged Arab force to Gaza to bring him the hardest shot in his history”.
