After his visit to Israel, Emmanuel Macron went to Ramallah, the West Bank, to speak with president of the Palestinian Authority Mahmoud Abbas, this Tuesday October 24, 2023 just after having given a press conference alongside Prime Minister Benyamin Netanyahu in Tel Aviv.
At the end of his interview with Mahmoud Abbas, Emmanuel Macron told the Palestinian leader of his “condolences to the Palestinian people” who saw a “great distress”, announcing “exceptional aid” of France in favor of Palestine.
Mahmoud Abbas, for his part, called for a “Total ceasefire” on the Gaza Strip, denouncing the “responsibility of Israel and those who encouraged the country to continue its acts of aggression” on Gaza.
“We urge you, president Macron, to put an end to this assault,” he said, calling for the establishment of “an international coalition for peace” and the holding of an “international peace conference”.
Mahmoud Abbas also condemned the bombings led by Israel in the Gaza Strip “which kill innocent civilians in a barbaric manner”.
Relaunch of the peace process
Arrived this Tuesday morning in Israel, Emmanuel Macron met families of French or Franco-Israelis killed, missing or retained hostages in the Gaza Strip. He then spoke with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, whom he urged to lead against Hamas “a merciless but not without rule”.
He also called on Israel to “restore electricity” in Gaza hospitals, ensuring that he would build “concrete cooperation” on this subject in the coming days.
