The Academy of Arts and Cinema Sciences has just unveiled the preselection lists for nine categories for the next Oscars 2021 : 15 long documentary feature films, 10 short documentary films, 15 feature films in the international category, 10 in the make -up and hairstyle category, 15 in the original music category, 15 in the original song category, 10 animation short films, 10 short fiction and 10 in the special effects category.
The man who sold his skinthe film chosen by Tunisia to represent it in the 2021 Oscar race, is part of this preselection unveiled this Tuesday, February 9, 2021.
The films of 93 countries were eligible in the category of the best international film. This year, the Academy of Sciences has chosen to include fifteen feature films in its pre-selection for the Oscar 2021 for the best international film. Only five films will finally be retained in the list of appointments which will be published on March 15. The Oscar ceremony will take place on April 25, 2021.
The 15 films preselected in the Best International Movie category are:

After winning the Edipo Re Prize and the Best Actor Prize for the young Syrian Yahya Mahayni at the Mostra of Venice Cinema in September 2020 where He had been screened worldwide in the orrizonte section,, The prize for the best Arab film at the El Gouna Film Festival which he was The opening filmthe prize for the best script at the International Film Festival in Stockholm, the film The Man Who Sold His Skin, the man who sold his skinwritten and directed by Kaouther Ben Hania had been Chosen on November 20, 2020 by a commission organized under the aegis of the CNCI to represent Tunisia at the Oscar 2021 for the best international film.
This is the first time that a Tunisian fictional feature is part of the preselection list. In 2020, the short film Tuniso-Canadian Broth of Meryam Jobeur, With the main roles Mohamed Houcine Graya and Salha Nasraoui, had been Officially appointed for 2020 Oscars in the fictional short film category. He was the first Tunisian film to arrive in the Oscars final. The French short film Nefta Football Club of Yves Piat, shot in Tunisia, with Tunisian actors, had also been appointed. But the 2020 Oscars for the best short film was won by the very beautiful American film The Neighbors’ Window Directed by Marshall Curry.
Synopsis:
To escape war, Sam Ali, a sensitive and impulsive young Syrian, has left his country for Lebanon. It was in December 2020, that the Tunisians had finally been able to discover this film when it had been programmed as part of the Carthage Cinematographic Days (JCC).
Last January, The man who had sold his skin had also won the Lumière Prize for the best international co -production, awarded by the Academy of Lights (France).
