Canada looking for migrants to build 3.5 million new homes

The Canadian Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship, Marc Miller, confirmed the increase in immigration targets to 485,000 new arrivals, next year, then the establishment, from 2025, of a maximum annual of half a million additional residents.

Speaking on Wednesday at a press conference in Ottawa, the Minister stressed that “this decision allows Canada to bring the workers necessary to meet the needs of the various industries, including the construction sector, in a context of housing crisis.

The target of 500,000 immigrants follows vast consultations carried out with many social, political and economic actors, “said the Canadian official.

The Minister said that the state wanted to better plan the integration of these newcomers, in order to facilitate their reception. Miller noted that the construction industry could quickly need 100,000 workers to build missing units in order to reach balance on the housing market.

In mid-September, the Canadian Mortgage and Housing Company (SCHL) stressed that 3.5 million new housing will have to be built by the end of the decade.

It is established that this increase in immigration quota in Canada concerns all countries, including Tunisia.

To be able to immigrate to Canada thanks to the program of candidates of the provinces (PCP), Tunisian candidates must have been appointed by a province or a territory.

The first thing to do is to apply for the province or territory PCP where they wish to settle. To be eligible for this program, candidates must have the skills, education and work experience necessary to establish themselves in Canada and to support their needs as well as to those of their families.

This province or territory will then evaluate if the candidates will be able to meet the needs of its economy and its labor market, as well as to those in Canada.

The program will also indicate how long it will take to process requests.
