Several films selected in competition or out of competition at the 75th edition of the Cannes Film Festival appear in the limited lists of appointments for the 2023 Oscars.
The Short List of the nominations for the 95th Oscar ceremony in these 10 categories was unveiled last night, December 21, 2022: documentary feature, documentary short film, international feature film, makeup and hairstyle, original band, original song, animated short film, fiction short film and special effects.
Each restricted list is established by the members of the corresponding section, except for the films appointed for the Oscar for the best international film, for which all the members of all the sections vote.
The final appointments will be announced on Tuesday, January 24, 2023. The Oscar ceremony will take place on Sunday March 12, 2023 and will be broadcast live on more than 200 television channels around the world.
Among the preselected films, 14 were scheduled for the 75th edition of the Cannes Festival, which took place from May 17 to 28, 2022, and some were even rewarded.

The films of the official competition:
- Closed (Belgium) by Lukas Dhont, who obtained about twenty minutes of standing ovation during his first screening in Cannes. - Decision to Leave (South Korea) by Park Chanwook, who won the staging prize in Cannes. Hae-Joon, experienced detective, investigation into the suspicious death of a man on top of a mountain. Soon, he began to suspect Sore, the deceased’s wife, while being destabilized by her attraction for her.
- Cairo Conspiracy/Conspiracy of Cairo (Sweden) of the director of Egyptian origin Tarik Saleh. Adam, a simple son of fisherman, joined the prestigious Alazhar University of Cairo, epicenter of the power of Sunni Islam. On the start of the school year, the Grand Imam at the head of the institution suddenly dies. Adam then finds himself, without his knowledge, at the heart of an implacable struggle of power between the country’s religious and political elites. This film won the Scriptwall Prize in Cannes.
- Eo, Directed by Jerzy Skolimowski, is a Polish film that follows the EO journey, a gray donkey with melancholy eyes, around the world. The film shows EO meetings with good people and others less well, and the experiences of joy and pain that it goes through while keeping its intact innocence. The film won the Exaequo jury prize as well as the price for the best soundtrack in Cannes.

- The blue of the caftan (Morocco) of director Maryam Touzani, who won the Fipresci Prize. History follows Halim, married for a long time in Mina, with whom he manages a traditional caftan store in Salé, Morocco. Halim lives in the secret of his homosexuality, which he learned to silence. When Mina falls ill and a young apprentice arrives, it upsets the balance of the couple.
