The International Film Festival of the Assouan Woman Film unveils the composition of the juries of its 7th edition to be held from March 5 to 10, 2023.
The management of the International Film Festival of the Woman of Assouan (Egypt) revealed the members of the various juries which will have to designate the winners of a selection of 61 films in the various sections of the Festival.
French director Julie Bertuccelli will direct the jury for the competition of feature films. His latest documentary Jane Campion, the cinema woman (2022) was presented during the last edition of the Cannes Festival. Julie Bertucelli won several awards, including in 2003 the Grand Prix and Grand Golden Rail of the Fecord at the Critics Week in Cannes and in 2004 the César of the best first work of fiction for her film Since Oot has left….
The jury also includes the Egyptian actress Yasmine Raees, the American costume designer Dana Schondelmeyer, the Russian director Ksenia Okhapkina and the critic Magda Khairallah.
The jury of short films will be chaired by Lebanese artist Madline Tabar, Brazilian director and producer Rodrigo Broom and director Kaouthar Younes.
The great Tunisian director Salma Baccar will chair the jury of the European Union Prize for the best Euro-Mediterranean film, with the Syrian artist Suzan Najm Aldeen, Nada Doumani, director of the Amman Film Festival, Dr Nisma Youssef Idriss and producer Safi El-Din Mahmoud as members.
Dr. Ghada Gebara, president of the Academy of Arts, will chair the jury of the Egyptian film competition, with artist Naglaa Badr and Fatima En-Nawali, director of the Casablanca Arab film festival.
The jury for the social impact films competition, organized in collaboration with the Ministry of Social Solidarity, will include director Sherif Mandour, producer Ashraf Hamed and the Kuwaitian visual artist Lina Hijazi.
Three young Egyptian cinema reviews, Amal Magdi, Diaa Mostafa and Areej Gamal, will be part of the jury of the Egyptian cinema criticism association.
During this 7th Edition, the International Film Festival of the Assouan Woman’s Woman will pay tribute to the Egyptian star Nabila Obeid for his whole cinematographic career and to journalist Doria Sharaf El-Din for her role in the promotion of cinematographic culture. The festival will also honor the Spanish star Cuca Escribano, the Dutch director Mijke de Jong and the great Tunisian director and producer Salma Baccar.
The festival will also organize a series of workshops, round tables and conferences to discuss subjects related to the representation of women in cinema and the media.
The International Film Festival of Assouan’s Woman Film has gained popularity over the years and attracts filmmakers and professionals from around the world. It thus offers an interesting opportunity for moviegoers and industry professionals to meet and discuss the current state of female cinema. Its existence is an important reminder of the need to promote a more equitable representation of women in the film industry, as well as to celebrate the achievements of women in this area.
