A new incident took place off the Côtes du Yemen where the Houthis claimed, this Tuesday, December 12, 2023, a missile shot in the Red Sea which affected the day before an oil tanker beating the Norwegian pavilion.
Last night, the American army announced that a missile fired from the zones controlled by the Houthis had hit an oil tanker beating Norwegian pavilion off the coast of Yemen.
Today, the Yemen Houthis have confirmed this announcement by claiming a missile shot in the Red Sea which hit an oil tanker beating Norwegian pavilion. “The naval units of the Yemeni armed forces targeted a Norwegian oil tanker, the Strinda, carrying fuel for Israel,” said a military spokesperson for the Houthis.
“The oil tanker was reached by a cruise missile and a fire broke out on board,” the US military command in the Middle East (Centcom) announced on X. The American destroyer Uss Mason has resulted in the ship, said Centcom.
Norwegian shipowner J. Ludwig Mowinckels Redi confirmed the incident, adding that he had not injured among the crew members, all of Indian nationality, who were able to extinguish the fire.
“The ship, which was on its way from Malaysia to Italy with raw materials for biofuel, is now heading for a safe port,” he said in a statement.
It is the fourth incident targeting ships in retaliation for the war waged by Israel against Hamas in the Gaza Strip, the Houthis having threatened to attack Israeli ships and belonging to allies of Israel sailing in the Red Sea.
