The Cairo International Film Festival (CIFF) announces the date of its 45th edition to be held from November 15 to 24, 2023 at the Cairo Opera.
The festival had previously announced the date of the next edition led by The president of the Hussein Fahmy festivalTHE Director of the Festival, Amir Ramsesand the director of the programming office, the critic Andrew Mohsen, during the participation of the artistic committee in the activities of the last edition of the Berlin International Film Festival last February.
It should be noted that the 44th edition of the CIFF saw the participation of 108 films from 53 countries, including 30 films which were presented as a world premiere and 57 films which were presented for the first time in the Middle East and North Africa.
The last edition has experienced a strong crowd of the public, and the number of guests participating in the festival reached 480 people.
During its forty-fourth edition, the festival awarded the Hungarian director Bella Tarr the “Golden Pyramid Appreciation” prize for all of his career, to be one of the most eminent filmmakers having achieved great successes throughout their artistic career.
The great artist Lebleba also received the “Golden Pyramid Appreciation” award for his entire careerin recognition of his artistic career which began at an early stage of his childhood.
Director Kamla Abu Zekry was awarded the “Faten Hamama” prize for excellence, for her distinguished director imprint.
Because of its key role in the strengthening and development of the film industry and the preservation of the cinematographic heritage, the 44th edition of the festival saw the restoration and the projection of two classic Egyptian films, Journal of a campaign substitute (1968) by Tawfiq Saleh and A song on the passage (1972) by Ali Abdel Khalek.
The Cairo International Film Festival is one of the oldest and most regular festivals in the Arab world and Africa, and is unique in that it is the only festival in the Arab and African region recorded in category A at the International Federation of Producers in Paris (FIAPF).
