The Cannes Film Festival is undoubtedly one of the most anticipated events of the year for cinema enthusiasts. This year, the 76th edition which will take place from May 16 to 27, will be particularly exciting, because it will be marked by the world premiere of “Killers of the Flower Moon”, the latest film by Martin Scorse, one of the greatest directors of all time.
Killers of the Flower Moon is inspired by David Grann’s bestseller and was written by Eric Roth and Martin Scorsese. The film takes place in the 1920s in Oklahoma and tells the story of the “reign of terror”, a series of serial murders aimed at the members of the Osage community, which had been enriched thanks to the oil present in its land. The intrigue revolves around a plot aimed at murdering the members of the Osage tribe in the northwest of Oklahoma between 1921 and 1925. When the body of a Dosage lady was discovered in the woods in 1921, jealousy broke into violence. Four years later, the Osage community had lost more than 60 people and the newly created FBI was contacted to investigate the murders.
Martin Scorsese is a regular at the Cannes Film Festival, he won the Palme d’Or in 1976 with Taxi Driver, which had been presented in competition. He also won the staging prize for After Hours In 1986. In 1998, he chaired the jury which awarded the Golden Palme d’Or to the Greek director Theo Angopoulos for Eternity and one day. Four years later, he presided over the cinefinity and short films jury, in particular in the company of the Iranian director Abbas Kiarostami.
Apart from the Cannes Film Festival, Martin Scorsese is best known for its film foundation, created in 1990, which is devoted to the preservation, protection and transmission of global film heritage. He presented many films at Cannes Classics as director of the Film Foundation.
As indicated in its press release, the Cannes Film Festival is delighted to welcome Martin Scorsese and the whole team Killers of the Flower Moon For a climb of the steps which promises to be memorable. The director will climb the steps of the Palais des Festivals alongside Leonardo DiCaprio, Robert de Niro, Lily Gladstone, Jesse Plemons, Cara Jade Myers, Janae Collins, Jillian Dion, Tantoo Cardinal, as well as other members of the distribution and the film team.
The film will be presented as a global preview on Saturday May 20, 2023 in the Grand Théâtre Lumière. It has not yet been announced if it will be in competition or not.
Cinema fans around the world are impatient to see what Martin Scorsese has in store for them with this new film, which promises to be one of the most anticipated of the year.
Killers of the Flower Moon is produced in collaboration with Imperative Entertainment, Sikelia Productions and Appian Way. The producers are Martin Scorsese, Dan Friedkin, Bradley Thomas and Daniel Lupi, with Leonardo DiCaprio, Rick Yorn, Adam Somner, Marianne Bower, Lisa Frechette, John Atwood, Shea Kammer and Niels Juul as delegated producers.
The film will be released in theaters on October 20, 2023 in the United States, with a limited release on October 6, 2023, in partnership with Paramount Pictures. In France, the film will be released in theaters on October 18, 2023, and will then be available worldwide on Apple TV+. Will the film be distributed in Tunisia? In addition to Killers of the Flower Moonother long -awaited films are likely to be part of the official selection of the 2023 Cannes Festival, or even to be the opening film. Names such as Indiana Jones and the Destiny Dial from Disney and Lucasfilm, and Asteroid City From Wes Anderson, who features Tom Hanks, Margot Robbie, Scarlett Johansson and Tilda Swinton.
The official selection will be announced in mid-April 2023.
