Following reports relating to the dissemination on social networks of photos and videos containing scenes undermining the dignity of children present at certain summer festivals, outside of any legal framework, the Minister of Family, Women, Childhood and Elderly Persons instructed the General Delegate for the Protection of Children to seize the Public Prosecutor to request the authorization to open a survey.
The ministry recalls that the protection of the child against any form of threat, whatever the source, is a collective responsibility, in accordance with article 52 of the Tunisian Constitution.
The illegal dissemination of minors images constitutes a manifest violation of organic law n ° 63 of 2004 relating to the protection of personal data. It also contravenes the principles of the best interests of the child defined by the child protection code (law n ° 92 of 1995 of November 9, 1995).
The ministry thus calls on all families to be vigilant in the use of social networks and to encourage responsible use of technologies, in order to guarantee healthy, balanced and respectful development of the rights of the child.
He also underlines the importance of cultivating in children attachment to their national identity, their cultural heritage and the positive values of Tunisian society.
Finally, the ministry urges the media and media institutions to be actively involved in the prevention of practices infringing the rights of the child and to work for the preservation of its higher interest.
