The Cairo International Film Festival has announced the opening of bids in all categories for filmmakers wishing to participate in the activities of its 45th edition, which will be held from November 15 to 24, 2023 at the Cairo Opera. The submission process will be officially open to requests from around the world from April 15, 2023, until August 1, 2023, via the official festival website.
On this occasion, Mr. Hussein Fahmy, president of the festival, said: “We are happy with all the excellent returns that we received about the last edition, both from the press and the public of the festival, and we are proud of all the achievements of the 44th edition in terms of programming and guests of the important industry. We also consider the presence of major industry stars such as Bella Tarr, Naomi Kawase and Matthew Kassowitz, as well as the special program devoted to the late French director Jean-Luc Godard, as an indication of the global position of the FIFC and the place it occupies with its ancient history in the film industry. We promise to the public of the festival an edition at least as good as the previous one in terms of quality and level of films as well as rather important participating guests ”.
The director Amir Ramses, director of the festival, added: “Choosing the films for the 444th edition program was a great adventure, full of ambition, which made this edition worthy of the name and history of the Cairo Film Festival. We were delighted to share with the public of the festival this diversified group of distinguished films, and this year, we promise several similar surprises in terms of various cinematographic competitions and special festival programs. This year we have also added a competition for documentary films as part of the Festival development plan and its opening to various cinematographic currents and styles, not to mention the celebration of a rather precious genre in industry. »»
The activities of the last edition saw the participation of a large number of among the most important films that have been presented in the most influential international festivals, and they have received elegant criticisms and won numerous remarkable prizes.
The latest edition has screened 108 films from 53 countries, including 30 films in the world and international first, and 57 films in the first in the Middle East and North Africa. Among these films were included Alcarràswinner of the gold bear at the Berlin Film Festival, Bread and saltwhich won the jury prize for the Horizons competition at the Venice Festival, as well as Eowhich won the prizes of the jury and the soundtrack at the Cannes Film Festival, Saint Omer, who won the Jury Grand Prix and the Lion of the future – Luigi de Laurentis of the Venice Festival, as well as Banshees of Inisherinwinner of the prizes for best actor and best scenario at the Venice Festival, and The Fabelmansdirected by the Grand Steven Spielberg, which opened this last edition.
Two classic Egyptian cinema films were also restored and presented to the public again, namely Journal of a campaign to of Tawfiq Saleh and A song on the passage d‘Ali Abdel-Khalek.
The Cairo International Film Festival is one of the oldest and most regular festivals in the Arab world and Africa. He acquired his unique status by being the only festival in the Arab and African region registered under the category “A” at the International Federation of Producers in Paris (FIAPF).
