“Elementary”, the 27th film of the animated studios Pixar, will be the “last session” of the 76th Cannes Festival which will take place from May 16 to 27, 2023. Presented out of competition, the film will be released in theaters on June 16 in the United States and June 21 in France.

Pixar animation studios are back at the Cannes Film Festival with their new feature film Elementarywhich will be presented as a global preview on May 27, after the closing ceremony, of which The mistress of ceremonies will be chiara mastroianni. It will be the fourth time that Pixar has presented one of his films in the official selection, after Up there (2009), Vice versa (2015) and Drunk (2020), so many films that have marked the spirits and have been acclaimed by criticism.

Elementary Carries the spectators to the city of Element City, where the elements of fire, water, earth and air live in perfect harmony. At the heart of this city, we meet Flam, a intrepid and lively young woman, and Flack, a sentimental and fun boy. Their friendship questions FLAM’s beliefs about the world around them, and leads spectators in an adventure full of emotions and discoveries.

For Pete Docter, director of the creation of Pixar, this return to the Cannes Film Festival has a particular meaning. “” While we leave our pandemic cocoons to finally find ourselves in our studios and work together around writing, animation or brainstorming sessions, it is a joy and an honor to see Pixar back on the Croisette. Directed by the extraordinary storyteller that is Peter Sohn, Elementary is a funny film, full of life and, very honestly, amazing to watch. It was created so that the public could experience it on the big screen and I am delighted that it is presented in a global preview in Cannes.“”

To give life to the endearing characters of the city of Element City, the Disney studios called on the talents of French actors Adèle Exarchopoulos and Vincent Lacoste to lend their voices to the characters of Flam and Flack in the French version. Adèle Exarchopoulos thus embodies Flam, a young intrepid and lively woman, while Vincent Lacoste performs Flack, a sentimental and endearing boy. For the two actors, this is a first dubbing experience, but their talent promises to give an authentic and moving life to the characters.

The original voices of the characters are those of Leah Lewis (FLAM) and Mamoudou Athie (Flack), who lend their talent for the original version of the film.

Thierry Frémaux, general delegate of the Cannes Film Festival, expresses his satisfaction of receiving elementary and the Pixar team: ” For many years, the Cannes Film Festival has been hosting animation cinema, with works from around the world. Pixar studios, with Up theredirected by Pete Doctor, made the history of Cannes by opening the 62nd edition of the festival in 2009. It was a great memory! It is again a great event to present the formidable Elementary For the “last session” of this 76th Cannes Film Festival and question our lives so strong and lightly. »»

Besides Peter Sohn, the director ofElementarywill also be present on the steps of the Palais des Festivals on May 27, Denise Ream, producer of the film, as well as many actors who have lent their voices to the characters in the film.

Elementary is produced by Disney and Pixar studios. The film features the French voices of Adèle Exarchopoulos, Vincent Lacoste, Gabriel Le Doze, Coco Noël, Céline Monsarrat and Michel Dodane, as well as the original voices of Leah Lewis, Mamoudou Athie, Ronnie Del Carmen, Shila Ommi, Wendi Mclendon-Covey, Catherine O’hara, Mason Wertheimer and Joe Pera.

The opening film of this edition of the Cannes Film Festival had been announced a few days ago, it is about Jeanne du Barry, directed by Maïwenn, with herself and Johnny Depp in the main roles.
