The US military has announced that it had shot in the Red Sea many drones and attack missiles pulled by the Houthi rebels from Yemen.
“Different military means, including planes, have shot down 12 attack drones, 3 anti-navire ballistic missiles and 2 cruise missiles in the south of the Red Sea, driven by the Houthis” on Tuesday, said the American military command in the Middle East (Centcom).
Since the start of the war in Gaza, the United States has regularly been target of attacks in Iraq and in the Red Sea.
Moreover, the United States patrols this strategic region alongside an international coalition to protect the maritime traffic of the attacks by the Houthis, which say they are united in Hamas in its war against Israel in the Gaza Strip.
The American Minister of Defense announced on December 18 the Red Sea formation of a coalition of 10 countries, in order to face the attacks of the Houthis against ships against the background of the war in Gaza.
Lloyd Austin had explained in a statement that France, the United Kingdom, Bahrain, Canada, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, Spain, and the Seychelles would take part in this coalition.
