The visit of the President of the Republic, Kaïs Saïed, had made a visit this Friday, April 28, 2023, at the book fair on the occasion of its opening at the Kram exhibition center. A visit during which the Head of State insisted a lot on the importance of “liberating thought”. But how would this release be possible without books?
A few hours after the head of state’s visit, Dar El Kitab’s stand was closed because of the book “The Tunisian Frankestein”. According to the director of the publishing house, Habib Zoghbi, the withdrawal of the book was due to the fact that he did not appear on the list deposited at the Fair when it was well included, later, in an additional list.
Faced with this incredible decision, the unions are formulating the decision to close all the wings of Tunisian publishers, said Habib Zoghbi. The latter even invites the Ministry of Culture to animate this fair alone, recalling that the book fair is for publishers and not at the ministry and without the publishers it does not take place.
How then to release thought, to use the President’s terms, without books? A question worthy of a subject of philosohpie for candidates of the next baccalaureate.
