The confiscation of the novel “Frankenstein Tunis” at the International Book Fair of Tunis caused a big controversy. If professionals talk about censorship, the official version evokes an offense to the fair settlement.

“Frankenstein Tunis” by author Kamel Riahi is a newly published 256 pages opus. It is a revisited adaptation of the novel by the famous British novelist Mary Shelley, “Frankenstein or the Modern Prometheus”, released in 1818.

“Frankenstein or the modern Prometheus” (“Frankenstein; or, the modern Prometheus”) is a novel published anonymously on January 1, 1818 by Mary Shelley, and translated for the first time in French by Jules Saladin, in 1821.

He relates the creation by a young Swiss scientist, Victor Frankenstein, of a living being assembled with games of dead flesh. Horrified by the hideous aspect of the being to which he gave life, Frankenstein abandons his “monster”. But the latter, endowed with intelligence, then takes revenge for having been rejected by its creator and persecuted by the company.

“Frankenstein Tunis” would have been, since his announcement, widely contested by creators in the literary environment and publishing.
