Beatman, Malek Lakhoua lives jazz and breathes this musical style by all his pores. Musician, he has brought numerous initiatives and participated in the most jazzy and intercultural training.
Recently, he founded Jazzit Records, the first Tunisian jazz label and managed to synergy with the emblematic Belgian producer Igloo Records.
In the coming days, Malek Lakhoua will be particularly in sight with his participation in two concerts of which he is the architect and also the drummer.
First, it will be on May 31, on the stage of the Théâtre des Jeunes Créators at the City of Culture. This first concert will be in the light of the Malek Lakhoua Acoustic Trio which will occur with a cover of “Besame Mucho”, an album in tribute to the tenors of the African-American tradition of jazz like Duke Ellington or Ahmad Jamal.
This album published in 2021 at Black & Blue, a legendary label of the international jazz scene, was recorded in live recording, in a single catch, with Wajdi Riahi on the piano, Wassim Benrhouma at La double bass and Malek Lakhoua on drums.
A second concert is on the agenda of June 1, at the municipal theater of Tunis. This performance will take place on the occasion of the release of “Tunisian Vibes”, an album by Kyle Schafer Trio which is produced by Jazzit Records.
The Belgian saxophonist Pierre Vaiana will be the feature guest of this evening which resumes on jazz arrangements, several standards of the Tunisian repertoire.
It is with the support of the Wallonia-Brussels delegation in Tunisia that this concert is organized.
A tireless activist, Malek Lakhoua gives all their punch to these initiatives and asserts himself as the spicy epicenter of the current jazz scene in Tunisia. A drummer lined with a battant whose generous activism gives an unprecedented momentum to Tunisian jazz.
