The European border surveillance agency, Frontex recorded 380 thousand irregular entries in the EU in 2023, a figure up 17%.
For the third consecutive year, the number of irregular entries in the European Union is up, reports Frontex, the European border surveillance agency, an increase of 17% in 2023 compared to the previous year.
According to annual Frontex data, published on January 16, 380 thousand irregular migrants have won Europe, the highest level in seven years. Among them, 41% crossed the Mediterranean from the Libyan or Tunisian coasts, towards Malta or Italy.
The second busiest road is the one that goes through the Western Balkans: Serbia, Albania, Bosnia. The third road taken is that of the eastern Mediterranean, from Turkey to the Greek coasts. This road is notably taken by refugees who arrive in particular from Syria, Guinea and Afghanistan.
