The US Defense Ministry announced on Tuesday “necessary and proportionate” strikes in Iraq against installations used by groups affiliated to Iran, in particular the brigades of Hezbollah.
According to American media, these bombings are involved in response to recent attacks against American troops.
“US military forces have led to the necessary and proportionate strikes on three installations used by the Hezbollah brigades, supported by Iran, and other groups affiliated to Iran in Iraq,” said Lloyd Austin, Minister of US Defense, in a statement.
“These precision strikes are a direct response to a series of attacks on the staff of the United States and the coalition in Iraq and Syria by militias sponsored by Iran,” he said.
“We are not trying to intensify the conflict in the region”, but “we are completely ready to take other measures to protect our people and our facilities,” said Lloyd Austin.
