With a weight throw at 16.33 m, Yassine Guenichi won gold, today in Kobe, Japan where the world para-athletics championships take place.
The Tunisian Yassine Guenichi, 28, won the gold medal at the weight throw (category F36), in the morning of this Tuesday, May 21, 2024, on the fifth day of the world para-athletics championships, which take place in Kobe, Japan.
He won the gold thanks to a 16.33 -meter throw, beating his two main opponents, the Russians Alan Kukwati (16.18 meters) and Vladimir Sviridov (15.91 meters).
Yassine Guenichi is not at his first since in July 2023 he had already distinguished himself at the Paris-Charléty World Championships by winning gold and a world record with a weight throw at 16.86 m.
Both deaf-mute and physical deficient (lesions of the four members), Yassine Guenichi thus establishes a new feat when it was only discovered in 2017. It is, like the other athletes in its category, suffering from light unrest and trunk but severe legs. On the other hand, he is the only one to be also deaf-mute.
Originally from the Sidi Bouzid region, Yassine Guenichi, who does not understand sign language, was discovered by Anouar Zghab, his trainer. With him, he became vice-world champion from his first participation in Dubai in 2019, and confirmed two years later in Tokyo with the paralympic silver medal.
The gold medal won by Yassine Guenichi is the second for Tunisia in this championship, after that won by Raoua Tlili to the weight launch (category F41).
