This appointment strengthens the festival’s commitment to the support of Egyptian and Arabic filmmakers, while creating the conditions necessary for the growth and advancement of the regional film industry.
Marianne Khoury expressed himself with enthusiasm about her new role, declaring: ” Since its creation, the El Gouna Film Festival has played a decisive role by allowing the realization of important projects to be made thanks to its invaluable support. As an artistic director, I wish to extend the scope of partnerships, support and training workshops in order to discover and support young talents in all areas of cinematographic realization.“”
Amr Mansi, executive director of the El Gouna festival, added that “A nomination of Khoury as an artistic director of the El Gouna Film Festival is one of the most important decisions taken by the festival management. I am convinced that it will represent a major asset for the festival because of its status of one of the most important filmmakers in the region and its vast experience in the field. »»

Born in Cairo in October 1958, Marianne Khoury obtained her license in economics and political science in 1980 at the American University of Cairo. She then continued her studies and obtained her master’s degree in economics at the University of Oxford in 1982.
Since 1984, she has been co -manager, alongside Gabriel Khoury, of the production company “Misr International Films” (Youssef Chahine & Co) created in 1972 by her maternal uncle, the great Egyptian director Youssef Chahine.
Marianne Khoury produces and makes films that captivate the public by approaching themes such as identity, memory and marginalization. It produced and co-produced nearly 30 feature films and documentaries that have won prizes at regional and international festivals. Marianne Khoury played a key role in the introduction of the first edition of the European cinema panorama in Cairo in 2004, as well as in the creation of Zawya in 2014. His latest initiative, the Dahshur workshops, is dedicated to the mentorship and the development of films made by young Egyptian and Arabic talents. His latest film, “Let’s Talk”, was selected to participate in the 32nd edition of the Amsterdam International Documentary Film Festival (IDFA) and won the Public Prize at the Cairo International Film Festival in 2019.
As one of the main festivals in the MENA region, the GFF aims to present a wide variety of films to a passionate and informed audience, while promoting better communication between cultures through cinematographic art. Its objective is to connect filmmakers in the region with their international counterparts in a spirit of cooperation and cultural exchange. The festival undertakes to discover new voices and strives to be a catalyst for the development of cinema in the Arab world, in particular thanks to Cinegouna Platform, an event oriented towards the film industry, created to give Egyptian and Arabic filmmakers the means of finding artistic and financial support. The Cinegouna platform offers Cinegouna Springboard and Cinegouna Bridge programs, which offer sharing and learning opportunities.
