The Kuwait emir decided this Thursday to dissolve the Parliament, elected last June.
The Kuwaitian parliament has been dissolved today by a royal decree. And this, for “violation of the constitution and use of offensive and inappropriate expressions”.
The announcement comes after the government’s ministers boycotted a parliamentary session yesterday by protesting the speech delivered by a deputy.
The latter reported criticisms addressed against the Parliament and the government by the Kuwait emir, Cheikh Meshal al-Ahmed al-Sabah, who came to power in December after the death of his predecessor. What was interpreted as an implicit insult to the emir.
In Kuwait, the permanent showdown between the executive and the parliamentarians resulted in a waltz of governments and the dissolution of the assembly several times in recent years.
