New dead end to the UN. For the third time since the start of the war between Israel and Hamas, the United States put its vet this Tuesday, February 20, 2024 on a draft UN Security Council resolution requiring an “immediate” ceasefire in Gaza.
The draft resolution presented by Algeria to the UN Security Council to demand a “immediate” ceasefire in Gaza has collected thirteen votes for (United States) and an abstention (United Kingdom).
Unsurprisingly, the United States has again blocked this project offering another one in favor of a temporary cease-fire conditioned for the total release of hostages and opposing the launch by its Israeli ally of an land offensive against the city of Rafah.
A text that would have no chance of being adopted as it is, in particular due to the risk of Russian veto.
Since October 7, the Security Council has only adopted two resolutions on this, mainly humanitarian file. Without a large result: the entry of the Aid to Gaza remains largely insufficient.
