Aimed by an investigation for apology for terrorism and for having held radical sermons in France, the Tunisian imam Mahjoub Mahjoubi was expelled in Tunisia, this Thursday, February 22, 2024.
After being arrested yesterday, the Tunisian imam, Mahjoub Mahjoubi, was expelled in the evening of Thursday, February 22, 2024 to Tunisia, less than 12 hours after his arrest in Bagnols (Gard).
In the expulsion decree, reported by certain media, he is accused of Mahjoub Mahjoubi for “conveying” a “retrograde, intolerant and violent Islam” conception. In particular, he would have made speeches presenting women as “inferior, weak and venal”, and encouraged hatred towards the Jews, designated as “the historical enemies of Muslims”. He would also have deplored that “mosques no longer produce fighters as in the time of the Prophet”.
“We dispute on the substance and on the form, the procedure of expulsion of the Imam Mahjoub Mahjoubi”, said the lawyer of the imam, Samir Hamroun, this Friday morning, assuring that he was going to file a remedy for freedom to suspend or cancel this decision, and stress that Mahjoub Mahjoubi has been in France since 1986 and has a residence permit since 1989. aged 7 to 17, according to his lawyer.
The lawyer also mentioned a slip, ensuring that he was not talking about the French flag in his preaching which ignited the debates. In a video broadcast on social networks, he described the “tricolor flag” as “satanic flag”, arguing that he had “no value with Allah”. The imam has indeed excused herself assuring having made a slip and wanting to speak of “multicolored flags”.
