Vladimir Putin’s confidant Nikolai Patrouchev, warned that the neighbors of Russia could soon be plunged into “chaos”.

Putin’s confidant, Nikolai Patrouchev, warned that the neighbors of Russia could soon be plunged into “chaos”.

In his capacity as secretary of the Russian Security Council, he accused the West of encouraging conflicts on a national scale, citing in particular Ukraine and the Middle East.

Patrouchev, who worked alongside Putin at the KGB, is known to firmly support Kremlin policies and is even considered the most likely candidate to succeed the Russian president.

During a meeting in Bichkek on February 16, Patrouchev said that the West sought to maintain its world domination by sowing chaos, while Washington thought it was more practical to achieve its objectives in general disorder conditions.

He also accused NATO of carrying out a proxy war against Russia by providing military aid to Ukraine after Putin’s invasion in 2022.

In addition, Patrouchev underlined the West’s attempts to disrupt the situation in the South Caucasus, in particular in reference to Haut-Karabakh, an enclave disputed between Armenia and Azerbaijan. He denounced Western interference in the Armeno-Azerbaijani regulations, thus exacerbating tensions in the region.

The Haut-Karabakh region is internationally recognized as part of Azerbaijan but is mainly populated by Armenians. Despite a ceasefire in 2020, tensions between Armenia and Azerbaijan remain lively.

Russia, which shares a border with Azerbaijan, plays a key role in the region and has a history closely linked to these countries, since they were all part of the Soviet Union.
