Three important clues for the immediate reopening of the Bardo Museum

In a statement to the TAP agency, the Minister of Cultural Affairs, Hayet Guettat Guermazi spoke of the National Museum of Bardo.

It was during his visit to the Hammamet Fort in response to a question from our colleagues from the news agency.

Answering this question relating to the closure of the National Museum of Bardo, the minister said that the museum will be open once the maintenance and restoration work is completed, denying the information that circulates around the final closure of the museum.

The Minister of Cultural Affairs also stressed that her department also worked to reopen all archaeological sites, including that of Carthage and that of Haouaria caves.

Intended to silence a persistent rumor propagating that the Bardo museum would be closed definitively, the ministerial declaration calls for several comments.

First, it is the first time that the Minister of Cultural Affairs has made a statement about the Bardo Museum, closed for more than two years without any official explanation.

Then, this statement does not really end the official silence. Indeed, the minister, while putting an end to the rumor of a final closure of the Bardo, is content to kick in touch.

In fact, Hayet Guettat Guermazi boot in touch and invokes “maintenance and restoration work” of which she says nothing of the content or duration.

Finally, the Minister says nothing about the museum’s reopening date despite the pressing requests for public opinion.

However, in itself, this ministerial declaration constitutes a positive index with regard to an imminent reopening of the museum. Indeed, it seems that the long -awaited decision should not be long.

In this sense, a second clue pleads in this sense and has all its importance when we know that the closure of the Bardo museum has been decided for security reasons due to its proximity to the assembly of representatives of the people.

In addition, an unofficial source, the closure decision was renewed for a relevant reason: the competent authorities judged that the security of the museum was not possible because of the general configuration of the premises.

However, we learn today that the security authorities have decided to reopen the road in front of the parliament headquarters in the Bardo.

Indeed, it was decided to reopen this road, closed since July 26, 2021, to vehicles and pedestrians, from Monday, August 28, 2023.

This route passing in front of the headquarters of the Assembly of People’s Representatives had been closed by decision of the Kais Saied president.

The return to traffic for this route induces by ricochet that the mortgages on the security of the Bardo museum are being lifted since this road is an important element of the security device in this nerve area.

Finally, a third index lies in the recall of certain categories of staff, which according to a close source, were invited to prepare to resume active service in terms of reception of museum visitors.

Are we going to an immediate reopening of the National Museum of Bardo? Everything suggests and we believe we know that the return of the public to the museum should be effective in a week.
