Canada announced yesterday Tuesday, March 19, that it will stop sending weapons to Israel after a non -binding vote of deputies the day before to stop the transfer of arms to Israel currently at war against Hamas in the Gaza Strip.
“We are in a situation where reality on the ground no longer allows us to export weapons,” a government source told AFP.
It should be noted that the Canadian Parliament had adopted, on Monday, March 18, a non-binding motion in favor of an “immediate ceasefire” and asking the government to “stop approval and the transfer” of weapons to “destination of Israel”.
Let us also recall that in this country of the G7 a coalition of lawyers and citizens of Palestinian origin filed in early March 2024 a complaint against the government to suspend arms exports to Israel, by accusing it of violating international law but also its internal law.
