The National Cinema of Cinema and Image has announced that the girls of Olfa, directed by Kaouther Ben Hania is the film that will represent Tunisia at Oscar 2024 for best international film.
On August 31, 2023, the Committee accredited by the Academy met under the supervision of the National Cinema and Image Center to select the film which will represent Tunisia at the Oscar 2024 race for the best international film. This committee is made up of:
- Makhlouf ben Hafsia (temporary director of the CNCI)
- Khadija Lemkecher (director),
- Afef Ben Mahmoud (actress),
- Leyla Bouzid (director),
- Alaa Eddine Slim (director)
- Mokhtar Ladjimi (director)
Olffa’s girls meets all the eligibility criteria such as stated in the rules published by the Academy of Oscars.
The restricted list of Oscar appointments will be announced on December 21, 2023.
In addition, Kaouther Ben Hania announced on his Facebook page that his film will also represent Tunisia for the Oscar 2024 for the best documentary film.
The girls of Olfa made his first at the last edition of the Cannes Film Festival, Or He was in official competition. It was the first time since 1970 that a Tunisian film was selected in official competition.
