The Ministry of Cultural Affairs has organized, a reception in honor of ambassadors and chiefs of diplomatic missions accredited to Tunisia, in the presence, in particular of the Minister of Cultural Affairs, Hayet Ketat Guermazi, the Minister of Tourism and Crafts, Moez Belhassine, and the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, Mounir Ben Rjiba.
This diplomatic action in favor of the Djerba’s file is held in anticipation of the 45th extended session of the World Heritage Committee, scheduled from September 10 to 25, in Riyadh (Saudi Arabia).
The director of the Center for Heritage Sciences and Technologies at the National Heritage Institute, Hamida Rhouma, presented a detailed presentation of the Djerba Island technical file presented at UNESCO.
The registration file of the property “Djerba: cultural landscape, testimony of a mode of occupation of an island territory” will be at the agenda of the 45th extended session of the World Heritage Committee.
After several initiatives started in the 1970s, the application file in order to register the Ile de Djerba on the World Heritage List was finally accepted, in early March 2022, at UNESCO. Submitted on February 1, 2022, this file was retained after being assessed by the advisory body on the cultural heritage of the UN organization.
