While Italy welcomes the significant drop in the number of illegal migrants, this weekend was marked by a massive arrival of migrants on the Italian coast and in particular in Lampedusa.

Indeed, more than 1,700 migrants landed on the Italian island of Lampedusa this weekend. According to Italian authorities, around twenty boats were spotted while they were doing the dangerous crossing to Europe from Libya and Tunisia.

One of the boats was sinking just before reaching the coast, on the night of Saturday to Sunday.

However, the president of the Italian council, Giorgia Meloni, welcomed, recently of the agreement concluded between the European Union and Tunisia through the Italian government, the latter having borne fruit, according to her.

It is true that the migratory flow from Tunisia to Italy decreased by 86% in the first quarter of the year 2024.
This means that 1658 migrants landed in Italy from Tunisia between January 1 and March 15, 2024, reported on March 18, the Italian news agency Nova.
