As the 45th edition of the Cairo Film International Film Festival, it is with great pleasure that we reveal the appointment of the famous Bosnian director Danis Tanović as president of the jury of the official competition. This choice was made as part of a concerted effort aimed at attracting eminent personalities from the global film industry to participate in the festival, with the aim of promoting a platform for the exchange of experiences between the Egyptian, Arab and international emerging directors who participate in the event.
Born in 1969, the Bosnian director and screenwriter Danis Tanović is one of the best directors and screenwriters in Eastern European and around the world. Among his most important works figure No man’s landwhich won several awards, including the Oscar for the best film in a foreign language and the prize for the best script in Cannes in 2001. He also made films such as An episode in the life of an iron picker And Death in Sarajevowho won the silver bear-Grand Prix of the Berlinale jury in 2016. Tanović is the only director of Bosnia and Herzegovina to have won an Oscar.
The president of the festival, Hussein Fahmy, said: ” We are delighted to welcome the greatest personalities of international cinema to the 45th edition of the Cairo Film Festival.
