The first high -level consultative meeting between Tunisia, Algeria and Libya always has the political and diplomatic sphere react.
This Thursday, April 25, 2024, in media statements, the Algerian Minister for Foreign Affairs and the National Community abroad, Ahmed Attaf, returned to the 1st advisory meeting recently gathered, in Tunis, the President of the Kais Republic Saied, the Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune and the president of the Libyan presidential council Mohamed Younes El-Menfi.
According to her, this meeting was a “success”, ensuring that it was not motivated by any particular conjuncture and that it was not an alternative to the Union of the Arab Maghreb (UMA).
“The advisory meeting between the three leaders in Tunis is not directed against any part, the Union of the Arab Maghreb remained a project and a historical objective,” he said.
And to specify that the Algerian president “has considered this initiative for a long time and raised it with the leaders of the countries of the Arab Maghreb and their ministers of Foreign Affairs during their various visits to our country”, noting that “North Africa and the Arab Maghreb are practically the only region in the world without a mechanism of regular and periodic consultation between the countries of this space”.
Attaf said, thereby, that the 1st advisory meeting that has brought together the leaders of Algeria, Tunisia and Libya had led to “positive results, especially in the political aspect”.
And to add: “The Tunis summit is unprecedented, in the sense that the leaders of the three brothers countries have had cordial, open and frank discussions, as shown in the final press release, which insisted on four main files impacting the lives of citizens of these countries, namely the development of border regions, energy, food security and the levy of the obstacles to trade”.
