Tunisia has launched “the UNESCO World Heritage Route”, funded by the European Union, with the aim of enhancing cultural and civilizational heritage and preserving the material and intangible heritage through the development of new tourist circuits.
Participated in the launching ceremony of this initiative, the Minister of Tourism and Crafts, Mohamed El Moez Belhassine, the ambassador of the delegation of the European Union in Tunis, Marcus Cornaro, and the German ambassador to Tunis, Peter Prügel.
This project is part of the program “Tunisia, our destination” funded by the European Union and the German Ministry of Development and International Cooperation as part of the “Sustainable Tourism Promotion” project carried out by the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ).
Belhassine underlined the scope of the project in the development of the tourism sector and the diversification of the product, which represents one of the pillars of the national strategy for the development of tourism by 2035, while highlighting the importance of the consent of efforts to strengthen the competitiveness of the Tunisian destination on the global markets in order to attract tourists.
The Minister estimated that this project, like the road “world cinematographic films”, “the culinary road” and “the route of excursions”, would also revitalize economic activity in various regions and to open new job prospects for young people in order to preserve the continuity of the tourist season throughout the year.
