After 46 seconds of combat, the Algerian boxer Imane Khelif is declared “victorious by abandonment” in the face of the Italian Angela Carini who shouted in injustice during a fight in the framework of the 2014 Paris Olympic Games. This scene provoked a big controversy, some have even questioned the femininity of the Algerian.
Imane Khelif is not a trans athlete but a woman born woman, hyperandrogen, with high male hormone levels.
She had been suspended from the world boxing championships in March 2023, after having failed a femininity test of the International Federation (IBA) showing an abnormally high rate of testosterone.
A year later, she was authorized, however, to participate in the 2024 Paris Olympic Games, as she fulfills “eligibility rules”, assures the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
“Everyone has the right to practice a sport without discrimination,” said the IOC in response to the controversy surrounding the Algerian boxer Imune Khelif, accused by many people on social networks of being “a man”.
“All athletes participating in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games boxing tournament respect the rules of eligibility and registration for competition, as well as all the applicable medical rules established by the Paris 2024 boxing unit,” continues the press release.
