While the tension is in full swing in the Middle East, a new size actor enters on stage, Russia.
According to Iranian sources quoted by the New York Times, Russia has started to deliver air defense and radar equipment to Iran.
This new twist comes in response to a request from the Tehran authorities. Indeed, during a recent meeting in Tehran with Sergei Shoigu, secretary of the Russian Security Council, the Iranian president, Masoud Pezeshkian, expressed the will of his country to strengthen his relations with Russia, which he describes as “strategic partner”.
“Russia is one of the countries that supported the Iranian nation in difficult times,” said Pezeshkian. For its part, Sergei Shoigu said that Russia is ready to “cooperate fully with Iran in various fields”.
In this context, a head of a security consultancy and intelligence consultancy explained that “Russia has financial problems and although it maintains economic and cultural ties with Israel, Moscow cannot afford to reject the request for help from Iran because it counts a lot on Iranian drones in its war against Ukraine”.
