Faced with the rise of disinformation campaigns, in particular fueled by diverted uses of artificial intelligence, the European Union and Tunisia strengthen their cooperation.
This was underlined this Wednesday, June 11, 2025 Giuseppe Perrone, Ambassador of the European Union in Tunisia, during a meeting devoted to strategies to combat disinformation.
Speaking on the occasion of an event organized by the Embassy of Poland – president of the Council of Europe in 2025 – in the presence of European ambassadors, communication experts and media professionals, the diplomat insisted on the need for partner states to block the abusive use of certain digital tools to “political ends”.
A European arsenal for informational resilience
Giuseppe Perrone detailed the mechanisms implemented by the European Union to counter this scourge, citing in particular the support programs for independent media, the adoption of specific legislation to verify the content disseminated, as well as the use of diplomatic instruments to consolidate the effectiveness of the actions undertaken.
According to him, cooperation with partners like Tunisia is essential to follow the constant evolution of disinformation channels. “We are working daily to adapt our tools to new informational threats,” he said.
AI, new vector of informational disorder
The diplomat also expressed his concerns about the growing use of artificial intelligence in information wars. He warned against his ability to amplify and accelerate the dissemination of false information, both within companies and between states, threatening democratic stability.
By relying on a regular dialogue and shared initiatives, the European Union and Tunisia intend to build a coordinated and lasting response to the challenges posed by digital disinformation.
