The Italian Sage Automotive group, specializing in technical textiles for the automobile, plans to create a new production site in Tunisia, with the aim of 3,000 jobs by 2027. An ad that confirms the Tunisian strategy to make the automotive components a pillar of export and innovation.
The Italian giant of technical textiles for the automobile, Sage Automotive Interiors, continues its anchoring in Tunisia. During a working session held Wednesday with the Minister of Industry, Mines and Energy, Fatma Thabet Chiboub, the group’s management expressed its intention to extend its activities by launching a new production site on Tunisian territory.
Objective displayed: double the number of positions by 2027, to reach 3,000 direct jobs. An ambitious project which is part of a larger strategy aimed at strengthening local added value and making Tunisia a regional platform in the field of automotive components.
The Minister recalled that the sector is one of the national priorities, in particular through the Public-Private Partnership Charter for Automobile Equipments, which aims to double exports and jobs by 2027.
Present in Tunisia since March 2019, Sage Automotive already has a factory located in the El AGBA industrial zone, on an area of 27,000 m², which currently employs more than 1,400 people. The group operates internationally with 22 production sites distributed in 18 countries.
Tunisia, the second African exporter of car components, is home to more than 280 industrial companies in this area, including 140 at foreign participation. 65 % of them are completely turned towards export, generating more than 100,000 jobs, according to the latest official figures.
