The Tunisian athlete Rayen Cherni achieved a historic performance by winning gold at 10,000 meters walks at the world junior athletics championships, which take place in Lima, Peru.
Cherni traveled the distance in 39 minutes, 24 seconds and 85 hundredths, thus establishing a new world record in the category.
The young Tunisian walker has ahead of the podium the Mexican Emiliano Barba, silver medalist in 39 minutes and 27 seconds on the podium, and the Italian Giuseppe Disabato, bronze medalist in 39 minutes and 31 seconds.
His compatriot Wassim El Ounli, also engaged on this event, finished in 32nd place with a time of 44 minutes, 12 seconds and 72 hundredths.
This victory by Rayen Cherni, accompanied by a junior world record, is an immense pride for Tunisian athletics and a promise for the future.
