The Criminal Chamber of the Tunis Court of First Instance said, this Thursday, June 12, a sentence of two years in prison against ABIR Moussi, president of the Destourian party (PDL).
This decision comes within the framework of a case brought by the independent higher body for the elections (ISIE), following the remarks made by the opponent about the legislative elections of 2022.
The case dates back to a press conference organized on December 9, 2022, during which Abir Moussi had publicly questioned the organization of the ballot and the legitimacy of his results. His statements led the isie to file a complaint, saying that they were involved in the integrity of the electoral process.
Pursued on the basis of article 24 of Decree-law n ° 54 relating to the fight against offenses related to information and communication systems, the president of the PDL appeared four times in this case.
During the hearing of June 12, a lawyer committed of office withdrew, denouncing what he described as “illegal detention” of the accused. Despite this withdrawal, the criminal chamber decided to rule and finally returned its verdict during the day.
