Except that this time there are not three of them having carried out the assault, the attacker is not a police officer, but a prison guard who pretended to be a police officer, he was not in service and the act he committed was limited to an attempted diversion aborted by the intervention of a parent who works in the police.
According to the adventures reported this morning by Radio Shems FM, a prison guard noticed the presence of a couple inside a forest in Béja. He presented himself as a police officer and then forced the companion to leave the premises. The latter called a parent who works in the police. His rapid intervention made it possible to stop the thug before he takes action. He was in discussion with his victim who certainly sought to dissuade him. At his arrest, he claimed that he was an agent of the judicial police.
This case is not to evoke in the spirits the misadventure experienced more than a month ago by the daughter raped by police officers due to the fact that the attacker works in the security sector and that in order to commit his package he prevailed in his quality as a police officer to claim a second time at the time of his arrest.
It seems that the quality of police officer, in the heads of certain infantrymen, justifies the right to aggression and impunity. Admittedly, in the Beja case, the attacker is not a police officer, but exercises a security function. He pretended to be a judicial police officer to facilitate the offense committee and when he was arrested, he advanced the same pretension to try to get out of it. Sometimes, the quality of “Zamil” is more effective than parliamentary immunity and it is not Brahim Kassa, attacked in Kelibia in the name of the preservation of the Revolution, which will say the opposite.
This affair, which occurred almost 45 days apart from the scandal that continues public opinion, pushes us to question if this kind of offense was the consequence of the particular circumstances that Tunisia knows in the field of security or if it is an old practice which was stifled by the threat, pressure and fear as are likely certain leaders and members of the ruling party.
In the first hypothesis, the situation would be serious, because the police, called upon to do the security relaxation that is raging, should not be contaminated with it. In the second, it is high time that we take radical measures to put an end to this phenomenon. But whether it is the first or second hypothesis, the measures to be taken must focus on improving the quality of the selection, training and supervision of police officers and security forces by emphasizing the behavioral and relationships which must, now, underlie the service of the Republican police.
A republican police is not only that which acts beyond obedience and political colors and which intervenes only to enforce the law and protect public order in the legal sense of the term. It must impose itself by the exemplarity of attitudes and the inviolability of human rights and human dignity.
