US President Joe Biden clearly indicated that he would not support an Israeli strike in retaliation against the Iranian nuclear program. In response to a question from journalists, he said: “The answer is no”.
Biden has recognized Israel’s right to react to the Iranian missile attack that occurred recently, but insisted on the need for a proportionate response. He also announced that the United States would impose new sanctions against Iran in reaction to the attack involving 200 missiles, which struck Israel on Tuesday evening.
The American president also mentioned that he would soon have a conversation with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
According to Kurt Campbell, deputy secretary of state, Washington seeks to harmonize his position with Israel concerning any response to what he describes as “irresponsible behavior” of Tehran. However, he stressed that any new climbing in the region could compromise the interests of Israel as well as those of the United States.
