Donald Trump launched a new controversy by saying on Monday that immigrants in the United States propagated “bad genes”, less than a month after accused Haitians of eating domestic animals.
In a radio interview, the former American president spoke of “13,000 murderers” living in the United States. “It is in their genes,” he said, intensifying his anti-immigration rhetoric.
These remarks arise as Trump, a republican presidential candidate, is shoulder to shoulder in the polls with the Vice-President Democrat Kamala Harris.
On September 18, Trump had already targeted the Haitian community of Springfield (Ohio), describing them as “thieves” and “eaters” of domestic animals. These statements had led to 33 bomb alerts in local schools.
Springfield, a city of 60,000 inhabitants, recently welcomed 15,000 Haitians, fleeing the crisis in their country.
Immigration is a major theme of the 2024 presidential campaign.
