Specialist doctors will now have to exercise a national national service in the interior regions. An agreement was signed in this sense yesterday July 24 between the Minister of Health Mohamed Saleh Ben Ammar and the deputy secretary of the UGTT Mouldi Jendoubi.
According to the Minister, this agreement, which will concern 600 young graduates each year, constitutes “a first step towards equity between regions in terms of health service”.
A year ago, the previous Minister of Health, the Nahdhaoui Abdellatif Mekki, had attempted to impose on doctors specially graduated on a compulsory service in regional hospitals lasting three years. The idea had ended up being abandoned, after major protest movements carried out in December 2013 and January 2014 by doctors and medical students.
