This Thursday, October 17, 2024, the Israeli army announced that it has murdered Yahya Sinwar, leader of the Hamas movement, during an operation carried out in the Gaza Strip.
The Israeli army also claims to have killed two other members of Hamas during this same operation. The identity of the martyrs is still under verification. “The Israeli authorities are currently investigating to determine whether one of the eliminated fighters is actually the Hamas leader in Gaza, although no official confirmation has yet been given,” said the press release.
Hamas has not, for the time being, confirmed or informed the death of Yahya Sinwar.
Born in 1962 in Khan Younès, Yahya Sinwar spent more than twenty years in Israeli prisons before being released in 2011 as part of an exchange with Israel. Since 2017, he directed Hamas in the Gaza Strip and had recently taken the lead in the Movement’s political bureau, after the death of Ismaïl Haniyeh, murdered in Tehran on July 31.
