A contingent of some 200 navies has been deployed from Spain to the south of Italy by “precautionary measure” in the context of “general disorders in North Africa,” said a spokesperson for the Pentagon, Colonel Steven Warren, who refused to say if a country is targeted, reported the France-Presse (AFP) agency.
Equipped with four Osprey aircraft with switching Rotors and two KC-130 supply devices, the contingent arrived at the American Aeronavale Sigonella base in Italy on Tuesday, added Steven Warren.
These 200 navies, based in Moron, in Spain, are part of a special force of “reaction to crises” (Marine Air-Ground Task Force Crisis Unit) created following the attack on the Embassy of the United States in Libya, in 2012, and which had cost the ambassador and three other Americans. This special force had intervened South-Sudan Water in 2013, to evacuate staff from the United States Embassy
According to other US officials, mentioned by AFP, this deployment decided as a precaution in case the United States Embassy in Libya were to be threatened.
“We see a deterioration in security on the spot,” an anonymity official told AFP.
