While the conflict between Israel and Iran has been intensifying for a week, the Tunisian authorities said this Thursday morning that all the members of the Tunisian Embassy in Tehran are safe. No Tunisian national has yet been reported in danger.
According to an official source from the Tunisian Ministry of Foreign Affairs quoted by the TAP agency, “the embassy has not received any information reporting from a Tunisian citizen”, despite the tense climate caused by the ongoing military climbing.
The Department of Information and Communication of the Ministry, Mohamed Loumi, told the TAP agency that because of the closure of the Iranian airspace, “any possible repatriation operation could only be done by land”.
He said 72 Tunisians are officially registered with the embassy in Tehran, and that they are all safe.
“The embassy has been in personal and constant contact with them since the start of events,” he added, while specifying that recommendations were issued to limit their trips during this period.
As a reminder, the conflict experienced a critical turning point last Friday when the Israeli army launched a surprise attack on several Iranian installations, leading to the death of senior Iranian military officials. Iran has promised to retaliate, supplying fears of a regional conflagration.
