The always provisional assessment of the floods that have ravaged this week south-eastern Spain is now 158 dead, according to an official statement from the emergency services.
“Dozens and dozens” of people are still missing in southeast Spain, 48 hours after these dramatic floods.
Out of this total, 155 victims were recorded in the Valence region alone, the hardest hit, two other deaths that took place in the neighboring region of Castille-La Manche and one in Andalusia.
The Spanish Prime Minister, Pedro Sánchez, called residents of the Valencia region on Thursday, devastated this week by deadly floods, to “stay at home”, the risk being still present.
