Thameur Mejri’s new personal exhibition will be held from April 20 to June 22 at the Selma Feriani gallery. To discover for the power that emanates from current and atypical works.
What if Thameur Mejri was nothing more than writing, drawing, appearing and disfiguring immediate history? His works bubble with debris, icons, confusion, resonances and suggest a fusion/fission that produces shock waves and series fragments.
Its fall in archetypes is accompanied by martial tumults and crash that the erasures, pastel spots and traces of coal spring into the troubled serenity of its acrylic canvas.
“Fallen archetypes”, the title in English of his new collection, refers to archetypes that are both deciduous, falling irresistibly or being inanimate, having only as a point of support than the humus on which they lie.
Are these archetypes a jungian reminiscence or a structuralist enigma, one that speaks, between eros and civilization, or the sparse shadow of Thanatos? Inexhaustable, polysemy is at the heart of the Thameur Mejri device which, again, suspends meaning and challenges all humanity, where it is defeated in an illusion of triumph.
