Russian women could soon have to make a sudden change in clothing style if the proposal of a deputy who wants to prohibit the wearing of high heels was accepted. Oleg Mikheïev, a member of the left center “Russia just”, addressed a proposal to the customs union – which includes Russia, Bélarus and Kazakhstan – Heels, but also to ban flat shoes.

The latter explains that high heels, sneakers, ballerinas and moccasins are dangerous for health.
“The shoes should have heels of two to four centimeters, a maximum of five centimeters,” he explains in the text of his proposal, consulted by AFP.

“The harmful effects of wearing very high heels and flat shoes are now recognized by experts from around the world. It is necessary to change the trend, ”says the five -page text.

Oleg Mikheïev, interviewed by AFP, said they simply wanted to raise awareness of the general public about the damage that can cause uncomfortable shoes over a long period.
He explained that his proposal meant that he was concerned about the fate of women and that he wanted to avoid suffering from flat feet or other deformities.

“They are young, they simply do not think of this kind of thing,” he argued, adding that some 40% of the Russian population suffered from flat feet. “My female colleagues haven’t talked to me for half a day,” he joked.

The proposal has already provoked a media storm in Russia, women claiming that if the high heels were prohibited, they would know how to wear it knowingly.
